Fliss's letter to Noel's Christmas Presents programme in 1989 (aged 9)

Dear Noel Would you make this Christmas special for my special brother Roland. I am disabled with a lung condition which means that I can stop breathing without warning, I think I need some new lungs, don't worry that's not what I am asking for!! So I have to be watched all the time. Rolly is very kind, he stays and plays games with me instead of always going out with his friends but I'm not keen when he plays football as I'm always goalie because Rolly says I fill the space in!! If Rolly goes to a birthday parties he always brings back cakes or something back for me so I don't feel left out. My wheelchair was altered so Rolly could push me, he's great at wheelies in Lo Cost!! My dad gave up work to help look after me because I have to be watched at night as well as in the day, so we are OK for money but we don't have heaps. Rolly spends lots of time fitting together old bikes, trying to gt some money to save so one day his wish for a mountain bike will happen. He doesn't say much to Mom or Dad because he knows that if they could they would buy him one. In the holiday it was very sad because Rolly put a bike together and was very pleased with it, I was rather unwell and stayed in bed because my lungs would not wake up!! And I was bored, so for a surprise Rolly went to the library to get me some books, and when he came out his bike was gone, he said that it didn't matter and went to his bedroom and closed the door, I stood by the door and he was crying, it made us all very sad because to buy some of the bits for the bike Rolly sold his train set and in the end, doing something for me he ended up with nothing. Rolly shares lots of things with me, we even share the same birthday (Rolly's 13, I'm 9 - but I look about 5 1/2). I love him very very much and it would give our family that special "goose pimply feeling" to see Rollu with his wish for a mountain bike. A few years ago Rolly made a special wish come true. I was too unwell to go to town to see Father Christmas so Rolly got Father Christmas to visit me carrying lots of presents, not many brothers would do that unless they were very very special and that's what Rolly is to me. Please let it come true. Love Felicity Price
